RESOLUTION NO. 09-7461
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF OPA-LOCKA,FLORIDA,EXPRESSING SUPPORT
FOR THE MEMBERSHIP DRIVE OF THE MIAMI-DADE
BRANCH OF THE NATIONAL ASSOCIATION FOR THE
ADVANCEMENT OF COLORED PEOPLE (NAACP) AND
ENCOURAGING ALL RESIDENTS OF THE CITY OF OPA-
LOCKA TO SUPPORT SAID DRIVE
WHEREAS,the Miami-Dade Chapter of the National Association for the Advancement of
Colored People (NAACP) was formed in 1988 and since that time has been in the fore front of
efforts to empower people of color throughout Miami-Dade County; and
WHEREAS, the National NAACP was founded in 1909 with the goals of: (a) promoting
equality of rights and eradicating caste or racial prejudice among the citizens of the United States;(b)
advancing the interests of citizens of color and securing impartial suffrage; and (c) increasing
opportunities for people of color in securing justice in the courts, education for their children and
complete equality before the law; and
WHEREAS,the Miami-Dade Branch of the NAACP has introduced a membership drive to
bring new membership into the fold of the NAACP; and
WHEREAS,the City Commission of the City of Opa-locka("City Commission")recognizes
the importance of the NAACP and desires to express its support for the membership drive and to
further encourage residents of the City to support the NAACP.
NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF
THE CITY OF OPA-LOCKA:
Section 1. The recitals to the preamble herein are incorporated by reference.

Section 2. The City Commission of the City of Opa-locka hereby expresses its support
for the membership drive of the Miami-Dade Branch of the NAACP, and further encourages
residents of the City to of Opa-locka to support the NAACP.
Section 3. The City Clerk is hereby directed to transmit a certified copy of this resolution
to the Executive Committee of the Miami-Dade Branch of the NAACP.
Section 4. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon adoption.
