A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF OPA-LOCKA, FLORIDA, AUTHORIZING A
WALK PATH MEMORIAL FOR DECEASED EMPLOYEES
OF THE CITY OF OPA-LOCKA TO BEGIN AS FAR BACK
AS THERE IS RECORD DOCUMENTATION AND GOING
FORWARD
WHEREAS, since the incorporation of the City of Opa-locka("City"), the City has
received distinguished and honorable service from many City employees; and
WHEREAS,City Commissioner Dorothy("Dottie")Johnson hereby proposes that the City
establish a walk path memorial within an existing city garden for deceased employees where the
City could posthumously honor City employees to begin as far back as there is record documentation
and going forward; and
WHEREAS,City Commissioner Dorothy("Dottie")Johnson further proposes that within
the existing Memorial Garden, deceased employees of the City would be honored by a walk path
with brick pavers showing the names of deceased employees and the dates of"sunrise"(born)and
"sunset" (death); and
WHEREAS,the existing garden and future activities could also serve as a service learning
project for local youth programs; and
WHEREAS,the City Commission of the City of Opa-locka("City Commission")desires
to authorize the existing garden and further directs the City Manager to ascertain the cost of said
walk path to be located near and existing garden and city pavilion for an amount to be later approved
by the City Commission.
NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF
THE CITY OF OPA-LOCKA:

Section 1. The recitals to the preamble herein are incorporated by reference.
Section 2. The City Commission of the City of Opa-locka hereby authorizes the
establishment of a walk path memorial for deceased city employees of the City of Opa-locka.
Section 3. The City Manager is hereby authorized to ascertain the costs associated with
the establishment of a walk path memorial in honor of deceased city employees to begin as far back
as there is record documentation and going forward. The City Commission shall vote on the amount
of money to be allocated once the cost of the walk path is ascertained.
