HomeMy Public PortalAbout09-7918 Adopting the final Millage Rate 2009-2010 Sponsored by: City Manager RESOLUTION NO. 0 9-7 918 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF OPA-LOCKA, FLORIDA, ADOPTING A FINAL MILLAGE RATE FOR FISCAL YEAR 2009-2010, COMMENCING OCTOBER 1, 2009 THROUGH SEPTEMBER 30, 2010, PURSUANT TO SECTION 200.065, FLORIDA STATUTES WHEREAS, on July 29, 2009, the City Commission of the City of Opa-locka, Florida ("City Commission") adopted Resolution No. 09-7904, setting a proposed millage rate for Fiscal Year 2009-10 commencing October 1, 2009 and ending September 30, 2010, and scheduling the public hearings as required by Section 200.065, Florida Statutes, to be held on September 8, 2009 and September 21, 2009; and WHEREAS, on September 8, 2009, the City Commission of the City of Opa-locka, Florida("City Commission") adopted Resolution No. 09-7905, setting a tentative millage rate for Fiscal Year 2009-10 commencing October 1, 2009 and ending September 30, 2010; and WHEREAS, the Miami-Dade County Property Appraiser has determined the non- exempt net aggregate value of taxable property, both real and personal, in the City of Opa-locka for the Fiscal Year 2009-2010 to be $932,162,334; and WHEREAS, the City Manager has recommended an annual budget for the Fiscal Year commencing October 1, 2009, and ending September 30, 2010, which budget relies upon a millage rate of 8.3000 mills; and WHEREAS, public hearings were held on September 8, 2009 and September 21, 2009, allowing for public comment and consideration by the City Commission on the proposed millage rate for Fiscal Year 2009-2010; and Resolution No. 0 9_7 91 8 WHEREAS, the public and all interested parties have had the opportunity to address their comments to the City Commission regarding the millage rate; and WHEREAS, having considered the comments of the public regarding the millage rate, the City Commission of the City of Opa-locka desires to adopt a final millage rate for Fiscal Year 2009-2010. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF OPA-LOCKA, FLORIDA: Section 1. The recitals to the preamble are hereby incorporated by reference. Section 2. The City Commission of the City of Opa-locka hereby adopts and establishes the millage rate of the City of Opa-locka for Fiscal Year 2009-2010, commencing October 1, 2009, through September 30, 2010, at 8.3000 mills, which is $8.3000 per $1,000.00 of assessed property value within the City of Opa-locka. This represents a -2.89% increase over the rollback rate of 8.5467 mills. Section 3. Public hearings were held by the City Commission on September 8, 2009 and September 21, 2009, pursuant to Section 200.065, Florida Statutes. Section 4. The City Clerk of the City of Opa-locka is hereby directed to transmit a certified copy of this Resolution to the Miami-Dade County Property Appraiser and the Tax Collector of Miami-Dade County.
