RESOLUTION NO. 09-7 9 4 0
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF OPA-LOCKA, FLORIDA, RECOGNIZING
SEPTEMBER 15, 2009 - OCTOBER 15, 2009 AS HISPANIC
HERITAGE MONTH.
WHEREAS, the period September 15 to October 15, 2009 is recognized throughout the
State of Florida and the United States of America as Hispanic Heritage Month; and
WHEREAS,more than 42 million people in the United States are of Hispanic origin, with
their roots emanating from Spain, Mexico and the Spanish-speaking nations of Central America,
South America and the Caribbean; and
WHEREAS, Hispanic-Americans have contributed immeasurably to the diversity of the
United States through the introduction and exchange of their culture,art,cuisine and businesses;and
WHEREAS,many cities throughout the United States derive their names from the Spanish
language; and
WHEREAS, the City Commission of the City of Opa-locka wishes to recognize the
contributions of Hispanic-Americans and encourage teaching in our community about Hispanic
heritage through recognition of Hispanic Heritage Month in the City of Opa-locka.
NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF
THE CITY OF OPA-LOCKA,FLORIDA:
Section 1. The recitals to the preamble herein are incorporated by reference.
Section 2. The City Commission of the City of Opa-locka hereby recognizes Hispanic
Heritage Month from September 15, 2009-October 15, 2009.
Section 3. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon adoption.
