HomeMy Public PortalAbout1986-105Resolution No. 84 _ /o_.s" Resolution authorizing approval of a joint Energy Commission comprised of representatives of the Cities of Long Lake, Loretto, Maple Plain, Medina, Minnetonka Beach, and Orono and authorizing the Mayor and City Clerk to enter into a Joint Powers Agreement by and between the six said Cities. WHEREAS, the City of Medina hosts the only commercially operated landfill in Hennepin County, and WHEREAS, the City of recognizes that a large portion of all solid waste is recoverable and recyclable; and WHEREAS, the necessity for recycling has been mandated by the Metropolitan Council by 1990 and the likelihood of Hennepin County mandating that cities set up a recycling program by January 1, 1988, and WHEREAS, efforts are being made to work jointly with the Cities of Long Lake, Loretto, Maple Plain, Medina, Minnetonka Beach and Orono to obtain funding from the Metropolitan Council and Hennepin County for a centrally located facility with satellite centers as they become necessary, NOW, THEREFORE, be it resolved by the City Council of the City of P2441,, as follows: That the Mayor and City Clerk are hereby authorized to enter into a Joint Powers Agreement between the Cities of Long Lake, Loretto, Maple Plain, Medina, Minnetonka Beach, and Orono in order to work jointly to handle recycling of waste material. -2- Be it further resolved that the City of will be represented by a person appointed by the Council to the Energy Commission.
