December 16, 1971
In accordance with the Warrant, the meeting was held in. the
Brewster Town Hall, Thursday evening, December 16, 1R71 .
The meeting was called to order at 7:30 P. M. by the Moderator,
Grant W. Koch with Paul C. Sylver, Gladys Curtis and Dorothy Grenier
as tellers. A quorum was present. A Christmas Prayer was reed by the
moderator.
The Warrant was read by the Town Clerk with the exception of the
articles, which were read as they were considered.
ARTICLE 1 . To see if the Town will vote to appropriate from free
cash in the Treasury, the slam of Five Thousand Dollars($5,000.00) for
the Brewster Elementary School for the remainder of 1971 .
Knute Larson, Superintendent was given the privilege of the floor.
Carried by voice vote that the Town appropriate from free cash in
the Treasury, the sum of Five Thousand Dollars ($5,000.00) for the Brewster
Elementary School for the remainder of 1971 .
ARTICLE 2. To see if the Torn, will vote to transfer from free cash
in the Treasury, sums of money for the following items.
Assessors Expense
Town Hall Expense
Jr. OfficeClerk mages
Fire Department mages
Gas Inspector Salary
Wire inspector Salary
Highway Garage Expense
Voted unanimously that the Town transfer from free cash in the
Treasury the amount of Eighteen Hundred Dollars ($1 ,800.00) for the
following items:
Assessors Expense $300.00
Town Hall Expense 40C.00
Jr. Office Clerk 150.00
Fire Department Wages 200.00
Gas Inspector Salary 150.00
Wire Inspector 500.00
High-way Garage Expense 100.00
$1500.00
ARTICLE 3. To see if the Town will vote to appropriate from free
cash the sum of Five Hundred Dollars ($500.00) to the Reserve Fund.
Voted unanimously that the Town appropriate from f reecash the sum
of Five Hundred Dollars ($500.00) to the Reserve Fund.
ARTICLE 4. To see if the Town will vote to install and maintain a
street light on Underpass Road on pole number twenty-five (25).
Voted unanimously that the Town install and maintain a street light on
Underpass Road on pole number twenty-five (25) .
ARTICLE 5. To see if the Town will vote to appropriate from free cash
the sum of Two hundred and sixty-nine dollars and sixty-nine cents ($269.69)
from August 1 to December 1 , 1969 and the year 1970, under the provisions of
Chapter 32, Section 59 of the General Laws and authorize the Town Treasurer
to pay said appropriation to the Town of Arlington, Massachusetts
Motion was rade to indefinitely postpone and motion was withdrawn.
Carried by voice vote that the Town_ appropriate from free-cash the sum of
Two Hundred Sixty Nine Dollars and Sixty dine Cents ($269.69) for money
due for the period August 1 to December 1 , 1969 and the year 1970, under the
provisions of Chapter 32, Section 59 of the General Laws and authorize the
Town Treasurer to pay said appropriation to the Town of Arlington, YAssa.chusetts,
said Chapter referring to the non-contributory pension payments made to
veterans.
ARTICLE 6. To see if the 'Town will vote to appropriate from free cash
in the Treasury, the sutra of Seventy Eight Dollars and Thirty Two Cents
($78.32) to pay an unpaid 1970 bill of the Brewster Elementary School.
Voted by voice that the Town appropriate from free cash in the Treasury,
the sum of Seventy Eight Dollars and Thirty T-rn Cents (78.32) to pay an
unpaid 1970 bill for custodial services rendered at 3 planning board meetings
in December 19707.
ARTICLE 7 . To act on any other business that may legally come
before said meeting .
There being no further business , it was voted to adjourn at
8 : 25 P . M .
Mr . Robert Franklin asked that an opportunity to discuss problems
of robberies . Many .remained for discussion.
