It was explained to the committee that the property has never been aetivly on the real estate market for sale. They have had many inquiries and offers on the property from individuals that have had an interest in developing the peoperty along the commercial lines. These offers have not been considered in the past and we are told they will not be considered in the futured It was told to the Committee that there are also offers j4h on the property from groups interested in establish ng a cemerty, Nursing home and medical facilities on the property. Zt was told to the committee that if the town of Brewster was interested in the property that the selling price would be 1,000,000,00. In this selling price would be approximentally 32 acres and all out building. Not included in the selling price is a strip of land 300 feet deep by 1100 feet long inolu Ing all of the waterfrontq It is the committees understanding that this area is beeing retained for possible future use as a retreat for the I& Sallettee order#however in a telephone conservation with Fr, S11-vay negotiations have been left open for possible negotitions on the waterfront use by the citizens of Brewster The Committee met again to discuss the price, possible uses, and possible ways that the town of Brewster mite be able to purchase the property, I will now list uses that were discussed by the committee, 01) Future town office building (2) Future Police and Fire Building ( 0 Recreation, building and grounds. ( ) Possible Senion Citizens Center (5) Possible expansion of Brewster Ladies Library (6) Orginizations Matting Pace (7) Beveloping grounds in eonjuetion with Garden Club and other intereested Groups, I will now list possible ways of financing the purchase that were discussed by the Committee (1) Federal Money from Recreation Sources 92) Selling of other land that the town might own (3) Setting up a Commisssion to work along with Garden Club and other interested citizens and groups to raise sums of money each year to develop the property Into gardens of beauty so that the public would pay to tour the building and grounds, hopefully becoming a money making propersition. The Committee reconizes the fact that there are many questions to be answered, first and foremost the status and possible use of the beachfront, do we used a new town hall, if we dont now when will we and at what coat, Would it be worth reswaleing the old stable building into Police and Fire building, would the 99pfp"p saving between reodleing and the expected price of a new police and fire building be woth it, are there possibilities of a lease purchase plan so that our tax rate does not have to suffer the burden almost over niter and maybe other questions that the committee might have overlooked. The Committee in no way , I repeat in No Way reccomands at this time that the townQf Brewster purchase the La Sallette Properly, However linden aetiele` in tonights warrant the voters after hearing all of the facts of this report may by thier vote either extend the life of the committee so that questions may get answered or terminate the committee and in so doing stop all fact finding and negotiatidns on the LaSallette Property Respectively Submitted THe Ira Sallette Study Committee
