HomeMy Public PortalAbout09-7980 Construction of a Float Sponsored by: City Manager RESOLUTION NO. 0 9-7 9 8 0 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF OPA-LOCKA, FLORIDA, AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO EXPEND FUNDS IN AN AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED THREE THOUSAND FIVE HUNDRED DOLLARS ($3,500.00) FOR CONSTRUCTION OF A FLOAT AND RELATED COSTS FOR PARTICIPATION IN THE 2010 JUNIOR ORANGE BOWL PARADE, PAYABLE FROM ACCOUNT 12-512480 WHEREAS,the 2010 Junior Orange Bowl Parade is scheduled for January 2, 2010 within the City of Coral Gables, Florida; and WHEREAS,the Junior Orange Bowl Parade has been a tradition in South Florida since 1948 and is attended by an estimated 20,000 people each year; and WHEREAS,the City of Opa-locka("City"),along with several other cities in South Florida, has been offered the opportunity to participate in the 2010 Junior Orange Bowl Parade; and WHEREAS,by participating in the parade,the City has the opportunity to be showcased and gain exposure via television and other media coverage; and WHEREAS,the City Commission of the City of Opa-locka desires to approve and authorize the City's participation in the 2010 Junior Orange Bowl Parade. NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF OPA-LOCKA, FLORIDA: Section 1. The recitals to the preamble herein are incorporated by reference. Section 2. The City Commission of the City of Opa-locka hereby authorizes the City Manager to expend funds in an amount not to exceed Three Thousand Five Hundred Dollars ($3,500.00), for construction of a float and related costs for participation in the 2010 Junior Orange Resolution No. 0 9—7 9 8 0 Bowl Parade, payable from account 12-512480. Section 3. The City Commission of the City of Opa-locka hereby authorizes the City Manager to take any and all necessary action to effectuate the intent of this Resolution. Section 4. Interim City Manager DATE: S-ere<L, 2, 2009 RE: City's Participation—2010 Junior Orange Bowl Parade Request: APPROVAL OF A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO EXPEND FUNDS IN AN AMOUNT UP TO THREE THOUSAND FIVE HUNDRED DOLLARS AND ZERO CENTS ($3,500.00)FOR THE PURCHASE OF ONE (1) FLOAT PLUS OTHER NECESSARY ITEMS. Description: If approved, a float with a historical design of the City of Opa-locka will be constructed to be erected on a trolley with selected individuals participating in the Junior Orange Bowl Parade along with other Cities on Saturday, January 2, 2010, commencing at 6:00 p.m., moving along the pathway of Miracle Mile within the City of Coral Gables. Financial Impact: This amount will be taken from the Manager's Funds Account No. 12-512480 Implementation Time Line: Immediately Legislative History: None Recommendation(s): At the discretion of the Commission. Analysis: This if the first time the City is entering in an event of this magnitude. If completed, the City of Opa-locka's participation will be greatly exposed whereby she would reap multiple benefits from a world-wide publicity.
