HomeMy Public PortalAboutr 08:105 ~t.znIufinù nf .-tqt lßnrnugq ú£ QIttrftrÛ1 ~ ~ 3J ~ No. 08-105 DatoofAdoptio" Avril 17, 2008 RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF FUTURE NJ DEPARTMENT OF COMMUNITY AFFAIRS NEIGHBORHOOD PRESERVATION FUNDING WHEREAS, the Borongh of Carteret has received NJ Department of Community Affairs Neighborhood Preservation Program funding ftom 2004 through June 2009; 'VHEREAS, it has come to our. attention that the Neighborhood Preservation Program (NPP) funding is being eliminated ftom'the New Jersey's 2009 Budget." 'VIiEREAS, Carteret supports reinstatement of future NPP funding, as we believe the program serves as a 30 year model of successful community revitalization for New Jersey's low and moderate income families. 'VHEREAS, the Carteret NPP Program works to implement improvement activities in the Chrome Neighborhood, inclnding housing rehabilitation, as well as a variety of community revitalization strategies that are a catalyst for community improvements. The Carteret Program leverages private funding, working with the various private sector programs, including the Carteret special improvement district. NPP program activities leverage other public funding programs that bring comprehensive revitalization activities including commercial property & housing rehabilitation, infrastmcture and public access area enhancements, establishment of a neighborhood organization, youth, public safety & anti-litter programs. WHEREAS, the impact of the loss of funding for the Neighborhood Preservation Program will be tremendous for low and moderate income communities throughout New Jersey. These planned improvements are networked through community-based, self-help initiatives crafted from Neighborhood Preservation Program leveraging models. The program stmcture teaches the commùnity how to help itself '. BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED, that the Borough of Carteret supports reinstatement of the Neighborhood Preservation Program funding into the 2009 Budget Year, which will serve to continue revitalization programs in low and moderate income community neighborhoods.
