HomeMy Public PortalAbout10-7990 Civil Rights Supper Sponsored by: Vice-Mayor Resolutions No. 10 - 7 9 9 0 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF OPA-LOCKA, FLORIDA AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO EXPEND FUNDS IN AN AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED FIVE THOUSAND DOLLARS ($5,000.00) FOR A CIVIL RIGHTS SUPPER; PROVIDING FOR INCORPORATION OF RECITALS; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, in recognition of the great work done during the Civil Rights Movement, and in honor of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Vice-Mayor "Lady" Myra Taylor desires that the City of Opa-locka Commission join her in sponsoring a"Civil Rights Supper"to be held in the month of February 2010; and WHEREAS, the Civil Rights Supper will seek to bring together the Opa- locka community with a focus on educational advancement while recognizing the contributions of the late Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and other civil rights leaders; and WHEREAS, Vice-Mayor Taylor proposes that the City Commission of the City of Opa-locka ("City Commission") authorize a contribution of Five Thousand Dollars ($5,000.00) toward the Civil Rights Supper; and WHEREAS, proceeds from this event will be given to child care centers within the City limits, except for the child care center associated with the sponsor of this Resolution. t p NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF OPA-LOCKA: Section 1. The recitals to the preamble hereby incorporated by reference. Section 2. The City Commission of the City of Opa-locka hereby directs and authorizes the City Manager to expend funds in an amount not to exceed Five Thousand Dollars (5,000.00) in support of a "Civil Rights Supper", payable from account No. 79-579403. Section 3. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon adoption. PASSED AND ADOPTED THIS 13 day of January 2010. f�. ...... P .
