HomeMy Public PortalAbout20110531 - Historical Commission - MinutesAPPROVEDMINUTES HopkintonHistoricalCommissionmeeting:Tuesday,May31,2011 Attendance:MichaelynHolmes,BobIonta,RonYankee,BillShaw Absent:ClaireWright,NancyStevenson CALLTOORDER7:45PM MCFARLANDͲSANGERHOUSE: JenDoherty,agraduatestudentatBostonUniversity,presentedtheresultsofahistoricalsurveyofthe McFarlandͲSangerHouse(148LumberStreet).Thisworkwascompletedasaclassproject,andthere waslotsofenthusiasmfromboththeprofessorandstudentsabouttheuniquearchitecturalfeaturesof thebuildingandtheabilitytoreconstructatimelineofbuildingconstructionandreconstructionfroman analysisoftheexistingstructure.A15Ͳpagereport,entitled“McFarlandͲSangerHouse”alongwith accompanyingphotographs,sketches,figures,andreferenceswaspresentedtotheCommission. MichaelynwillfollowͲupwithJentodeterminewhetheradigitalversionofthereportcouldbemade availablethroughtheHistoricalCommission’swebpageorwhetheradditionalcopiescouldbemade anddistributedtothelibrary,HistoricalSociety,etc. BOYSCOUTPROJECT Michaelynhasbeencontactedaboutpotentialhistoricalpreservationordocumentationprojectsaround townthatmightbeappropriateforanEagleScoutproject.OnepossibilityistheOldNorthMillsite(Jim MerloniattheNewEnglandTrainingCentermaybeabletohelp),ortheStoneArchBridgeoverthe SudburyRiverneartheSouthboroughtownline. RESIGNATION MichaelynannouncedthatRogerMezittwillbesteppingdownfromtheHistoricalCommissionafter providingmanyyearsofexcellentservice.Thegroupagreedtoasmallgiftandafuturefarewellevent forRoger. NEWAPPOINTMENT TheCommissiondiscussednamesofafewTownresidentsthatmightbegoodcandidatesforanew appointmenttotheHistoricalCommission.Michaelynwillbecontactingsomeoftheseindividualsto assesstheirpotentialinterest. ARCHBRIDGE WithRoger’sdeparturefromtheHistoricalCommission,Ronvolunteeredtoinitiatecommunication abouttheArchBridgeCPCproject.RonwillcontacttheTownassessorandtheSudburyValleyTrustfor anyinformationaboutpropertyrights,etc. SECRETARY’SREPORT MinutesfromtheMarch2011meetingwereapprovedwiththreeminoredits(motionbyRon,second byMichaelyn,unanimousapproval). MinutesfromtheApril2011meetingwereapprovedwithtwominoredits(motionbyMichaelyn, secondbyRon,unanimousapproval). SUMMERSCHEDULE TheCommissionvotedtocanceltheusualmeetingsforJulyandAugustunlessaneedarises.Thenext meetingwillbeheldonTuesday,June28. TREASURER’sREPORT TheTreasurer’sReportwaspresentedbyRonYankeeandapprovedwithnochanges(motionbyBob, secondbyMichaelyn,unanimousapproval). ORALHISTORYPROJECT Therewasadiscussionoftheneedtopurchasesomebackgroundrecordsandpublicationstohelpmake decisionsrelatedtotheoralhistoryproject.TheCommissionvotedtoapproveupto$1,000fromthe CPCbudgetforthisprojecttopayfortheseearlysupplies(motionbyBob,secondbyBill,unanimous approval). BUDGETREQUESTS TheCommissionvotedtospendupto$975foroneoftwopossibleprojectsoverthesummer: 1.Fundapproximately40Ͳ45studenthours(JenDoherty?)todesignatriͲfoldbrochuredescribing thearchitecturalsignificanceoftheMcFarlandͲSangerHouseandtoscriptupto20display plaquesthatcouldbeplacedaroundthebuildingtohighlightthelocationsofthesefeatures. 2. ProvidepreͲregistrationfundsforaHistoricalCommissionmembertoattendtheannual conferenceoftheNationalTrustforHistoricPreservation(Buffalo,NY,October19Ͳ22,2011).
