Presents the following Ordinance Seconded by Councilman
ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 128, "FIRE PREVENTION" OF THE
CODE OF THE BOROUGH OF CARTERET
BE IT ORDAINED by the Mayor and Council of the Borough of Carteret ("Borough")
as follows:
Section 1. Chapter 128, entitled "Fire Prevention," is hereby amended and
supplemented to include the following new Article VI:
ARTICLE VI
Charges for Fire Response Services
~ 128-44. Fees.
The Fire Depa11ment and Police Department shall bill insurance
companies for the following response services they provide.
These funds will be used to purchase and maintain the necessary
equipment and persOIll1el, required to provide the needed
responses or hire fIre fighters.
A. HOUSE FIRES & COMMERCIAL LOCATIONS
The following rates will be billed for up to 2.5 hours of
usage. "Over 2.5 hours an additional 20% per item, per
hour will be charged.

Section 2. All Ordinances and/or provisions thereof inconsistent with the provision of
this Ordinance shall be and are hereby repealed as to the extent of any such
inconsistencies.
Section 3. -If any section, subsection, part, clause or phrase of this Ordinance shall be
declared invalid by judgment of any Court of competent jurisdiction, the section,
subsection, part, clause or phrase shall be deemed to be severable from the remainder of
this Ordinance.
Section 4. This' Ordinance shall take effect upon passage and publication according to
applicable law. .

Fire departments can bill insurance companies for the services they
provide. These funds can help your department buy that needed new
truck, purchase equipment, or hire fire fighters. Fire Departments that
bill can also lower the tax burden by generating revenue.
