HomeMy Public PortalAbout10-8035 Civil Right Museum Sponsored by: Mayor Kelley Resolution No. 10-8035 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF OPA-LOCKA, FLORIDA, TO SUPPORT A BILL FILED BY SENATOR TONY HILL FOR THE CREATION OF A STATE OF FLORIDA CIVIL RIGHTS MUSEUM; PROVIDING FOR RECITALS; PROVIDING FOR AN EJiF'ECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, the State of Florida and its citizens have a proud history of activism in the Civil Rights Movement; and WHEREAS, Senator Tony Hill has filed legislation calling for the creation of a State of Florida Civil Rights Museum,to honor and preserve the legacy of the Civil Rights Movement; and WHEREAS, it is important to all Floridians,and especially to the youth of Florida,that the struggle for Civil Rights be recognized and commemorated. NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF OPA-LOCKA,FLORIDA: Section 1. The recitals to the preamble herein are incorporated by reference. Section 2. The City Commission of the City of Opa-locka, Florida hereby declares its support for the legislation sponsored by Senator Tony Hill calling for the creation of a State of Florida Civil Rights Museum. Section 3. The City Clerk is directed to send a copy of this resolution to the President of the Florida Senate, the Speaker of the Florida House, and all members of the Miami-Dade Legislative Delegation. Section 4. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon adoption.
