AUTHORIZING A SEVERANCE AND SETTLEMENT AGREEMENT AND
GENERAL RELEASE BETWEEN THE BOROUGH OF CARTERET AND ANDREW
M. TARRANT AS A POLICE SERGEANT WITH THE CARTERET POLICE
DEPARTlYlENT
. WHEREAS, the Borough of Carteret ("Borough") issued a Notice ofDiscipliuary
Action agai;'st Police Sergeant Andrew M. Tarrant ("Tarrant") dated November 9, 2007,
a copy of which is attached hereto and made a part hereof; and
\VHEREAS, the Borough subsequently issued Tarrant an additional Notice of
Disciplinary Action dated December 18, 2007, a copy of~vhich is attached hereto and
made a part hereof; and
\VHEREAS, the facts and circumstances giving rise to said disciplinary action are 'the
subject of a criminal court action entitled STATE OF NEW JERSEY, Plaiptiffvs.
ANDREW TARRANT, Defendant, bearing Docket No. MAM-7-2008, in the Superior
Comi of New Jersey, Criminal Part,. Middlesex County; and
\VHEREAS, said matter is presently pending in the Superior Court, Appellate Division
under Docket No. A-004249-07T4 on appeal by the Middlesex County Prosecutor's
Office; and
\VHEREAS, Tarrant now wishes to retire from his employment with the Borough; and
'VHEREAS, in consideration ofTarranfs desire to retire from his position, and by way
of an accornmodatiolJ- to Tarrant, the Borough and Tarrant have agreed to a proposed
resolution ofthe above disciplinary matter, which they desire to memorialize by way of a
formal S.~verance and Settlement Agreement.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Governing Body of the Borough of
Carteret, Middlesex County,- New Jersey as follows: in exchange for the covenants
contained herein, the parties agree as follows:
1. That the attached Severance and Settlement Agreement is herby approved.
2. That the appropriate Borough Officials ar..e hereby authorized to execute said
Se.ttlement Agreement and to implement its provisions according to its terms.
