CITY OF MEDINA RESOLUTION NO. f/M-423
RESOLUTION OPPOSING THE
LOCATION OF A COMPOST FACILITY
WITHIN THE CITY OF MEDINA
WHEREAS, the City of Medina has been notified by Hennepin County that it
intends to locate a composting facility for municipal solid and yard wastes
within Medina, Minnesota; and
WHEREAS, the proposed composting facility would be located on a 69 - acre
tract of land recently purchased by the County for said purpose; and
WHEREAS, Medina has participated in the disposal of Hennepin County
solid waste since the 1950s and is currently home to the 190 - acre Wood -
lake Sanitary Landfill, the only operational landfill in Hennepin County to-
day; and
WHEREAS, the more than 2,000 acres in Baker Park in Medina are exempt
from ad valorem taxes because of their ownership by the Hennepin County Park
Reserve; and
WHEREAS, the City Council recognizes the need for all communities to
share in the burden of hosting certain regional facilities, but believes that
Medina has done its fair share in this regard with Woodlake Landfill and Baker
Park and should not be asked to restrict its tax base or risk the health and
safety of its residents to a greater degree than at present.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of
Medina that the City of Medina be on record as opposed to the location of
a composting facility within Medina and that a copy of this resolution be
forwarded by the city clerk -treasurer to the members fo the Hennepin County
Board of Commissioners.
