RESOLUTION NO. 10-8094
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF OPA-LOCKA, FLORIDA TO AUTHORIZE THE
CITY MANANGER TO DONATE USED CITY CELL
PHONES TO CITY OF OPA-LOCKA SENIORS AND
DISABLED RESIDENTS, ALLOWING THE CELL
PHONES TO BE USED FOR EMERGENCY
COMMUNICATIONS ONLY (911); PROVIDING FOR
INCORPORATION OF RECITALS; PROVIDING FOR AN
EFFECTIVE DATE
WHEREAS, the City Commission of the City of Opa-locka desires to assist senior
citizens and disabled residents of Opa-locka by donating cell phones, no longer used by the City
of Opa-locka; and
WHEREAS, the cell phones will be reset to factory settings, will be tested and will be
able to be used only for emergency calls (911), free of charge; and
WHEREAS, the City Commission of the City of Opa-locka approves the donation of the
emergency cell phones to the senior citizen and disabled residents of Opa-locka:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION
OF THE CITY OF OPA-LOCKA,FLORIDA:
Section 1. The recitals to the preamble herein are incorporated by reference.
Section 2. The City Commission of the City of Opa-locka hereby directs and
authorizes the City Manager to donate used City cell phones to City of Opa-locka senior citizens
and disabled residents, allowing the cell phones to be used only for emergency calls (911), free
of charge.

Section 3. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon adoption.

Request: APPROVAL OF A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CITY
MANANGER TO DONATE USED CITY CELL PHONES TO CITY OF
OPA-LOCKA SENIOR AND DISABLED RESIDENTS, ALLOWING THE
CELL PHONES TO BE USED FOR EMERGENCY COMMUNICATIONS
ONLY (911).
Description: The City of Opa-locka has deemed certain City issued cell phones as still functional
after being used by the City. These cell phones have been reset to the factory setting
and have been tested by the Information Technology Department. These cell phones
although not on any type of minute plan still function to make emergency (911) calls.
Financial Impact: No fiscal impact
Implementation Time Line: Immediately after execution of resolution.
Legislative History: None
Recommendation(s): Staff recommends donating the used City cell phones to City of Opa-
locka senior and disabled residents.
Analysis: All used City cell phones that the City is no longer using have been stored
at the Information Technology Department. The cell phones have been
reset to factory setting ensuring there is no information left on the device
from the previous user. All cell phones have been tested and can be used
for emergency calls (911) free of charge to the end user.
