Board of Assessors
Minutes of Meeting held July 26, 2011
A regular meeting of the Board of Assessors was held on July 26, 2011 in Conference
Room 107 at the Town Hall. A Notice of Meeting was duly posted. The meeting
commenced at 5:15 p.m. In attendance were John Duffy, Mary Jo Lafreniere and John
Palmer, all the members of the Board. Also in attendance was Robert Bushway,
Principal Assessor. John Duffy presided and John Palmer kept the minutes.
The Board approved the minutes of the meeting held on July 12, 2011.
The Board reviewed and signed a Bills Payable Warrant in the amount of $324.
The Board reviewed and signed a motor vehicle excise tax warrant and commitment
(#2011-4) in the amount of $90,892.40.
The Board reviewed the Answer filed by Verizon New England relating to the Appellate
Tax Board Petition filed by the Board with regard to FY 2012 property values.
The Board discussed the “All Hands” meeting scheduled for August 16, 2011 at the
Senior Center. It was agreed that a member of the Board would participate at this
meeting.
Dr. Duffy reported on the status of the Chapter 40B low income housing development on
Mayhew Court. Based on the formula set by the Commonwealth for payments in lieu of
taxes for public housing, Hopkinton would receive about $3,200 annually once the
project is complete.
Mr. Bushway presented a proposed settlement received from New Cingular Wireless
relating to FYS 2004-2011. Under the proposal, Hopkinton would abate approximately
$11,800 in back taxes. After discussion, the Board voted to table action on the proposal
until the next meeting of the Board.
The next meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, August 10, 2011 at 5:15 p.m.
The meeting adjourned at 6:20 p.m.
