HomeMy Public PortalAbout10-8123 The Local Jobs for America Act Sponsored by: Mayor Kelley Resolution No. 10-8123 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF OPA-LOCKA,FLORIDA TO URGE CONGRESS TO SUPPORT H.R. 4812, THE LOCAL JOBS FOR AMERICA ACT TO PROVIDE FEDERAL ASSISTANCE TO MUNICIPALITIES AS THEY SEEK TO PROTECT ESSENTIAL SERVICES AND AVOID ADDITIONAL LAYOFFS OF MUNICIPAL WORKERS; PROVIDING FOR INCORPORATION OF RECITALS; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, the City of Opa-locka recognizes the difficult economic tide that the nation faces, and realize that this is one of the most difficult times that the U.S. economy has ever experienced; and WHEREAS, communities have cut back on many essential services, such as, education, public safety, childcare, health care and transportation; and WHEREAS,H.R.4812 Bill,The Local Jobs for America Act will create and save a million public and private jobs in local communities,and ensure that local communities can operate essential services; and WHEREAS, The Local Jobs for America Act support will target directly to states and municipalities with the greatest number of people out of work to restore important local services; and WHEREAS,The Local Jobs for America Act will fund salaries for private sector on-the-job training to help local businesses put people back to work; and Resolution No. 10-8123 WHEREAS,the City Commission of the City of Opa-locka urges Congress to support H.R. 4812, The Local Jobs for America Act: NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF OPA-LOCKA,FLORIDA: Section 1. The recitals to the preamble herein are incorporated by reference. Section 2. The City Commission of the City of Opa-Locka, Florida urges Congress to support H.R.4812,The Local Jobs for America Act to Provide Federal Assistance to municipalities as they seek to protect essential services and avoid additional layoffs of municipal workers. Section 3. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon adoption. PASSED AND ADOPTED this 8th day of September, 2010. PH L.
