HomeMy Public PortalAbout10-8125 Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant Program Sponsored by: Mayor Kelley Resolution No. 10-8125 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF OPA-LOCKA, FLORIDA, TO URGE CONGRESS TO MAINTAIN FUNDING TO THE ENERGY EFFICIENCY AND CONSERVATION BLOCK GRANT PROGRAM (EECBG) TO ASSIST CITIES IN FUNDING INNOVATIVE ENERGY SAVINGS STRATEGIES;PROVIDING FOR INCORPORATION OF RECITALS; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant Program (EEGB) is to assist eligible entities in implementing energy and conservation strategies; and WHEREAS, many cities have not been able to expand or implement energy-saving and environmentally-friendly strategies due to budgetary constraints; and WHEREAS,the Energy Efficiency and Conversation Block Grant Program(EECGB)was created to provide grants to municipalities to update energy-efficiency provision in building codes, renovate old buildings using energy efficiency technologies,adopt renewable energy solutions,create incentives for citizens to use transportation alternatives, and implement energy saving campaigns; and WHEREAS,the Energy Efficiency and Conversation Block Grant Program(EECGB)first received funding under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA), but has not since received additional funding; and WHEREAS, the City Commission of the City of Opa-locka urges Congress to maintain funding to the Energy Efficiency and Conversation Block Grant Program(EECGB): NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF OPA-LOCKA,FLORIDA: Resolution No. 10-8125 Section 1. The recitals to the preamble herein are incorporated by reference. Section 2. The City Commission of the City of Opa-locka urges Congress to maintain funding to the Energy Efficiency and Conversation Block Grant Program(EECGB)to assist cities in funding innovative energy savings strategies.
