The trees that I am requesting to be removed are a 22in laurel oak (Quercus laurifolia) and a 16.5in multi -stem laurel oak. Of the two laurel oaks that are recommended for removal, one (22in) has massive root damage (Pictures 1 and 2), from the installation of a road. The same tree had a large amount of decay in one of the main scaffold branches and had a limb failure within the calendar year. The tree also leans significantly toward the house in the direction opposite of the root damage. The second laurel oak (16,5in) that is recommended for removal has massive decay underneath the root flare of the tree (Pictures 3 and 4); the inspector determined the extent of the decay using a probe more than 12in in length. This tree is also very close to the house and if failure were to occur there would likely be damage to the house. There is an immediate potential threat to life and property if these trees were to remain. The removal of these trees will also create space to replant with site - appropriate species. A live oak (Quercus virginiana) or bald cypress (Taxodium distichum) can be planted to replace the laurel oak that should be removed near the southeast comer of the house. A live oak may replace the laurel oak on the south side of the property near the road. Thank you for your consideration, Michael W. Pavlis ISA Certified Arborist.
