HomeMy Public PortalAbout2020-03-10 Item 1c WHEREAS, In 1975, during International Women’s Year, the United Nations began celebrating March 8th as International Women’s Day; and WHEREAS, International Women’s Day is a time to reflect on progress made, to call for change, and to celebrate acts of courage and determination by ordinary women who have played an extraordinary role in the history of their countries and communities; and WHEREAS, During this historic year 2020, we celebrate the Centennial of the 19th Amendment to the United States Constitution, Votes for Women, ratified and signed into the record; and WHEREAS, In 2020 the League of Women Voters (LWV) celebrates its 100th anniversary and the League of Women Voters of North and Central San Mateo County, CA joins more than 700 other local and state chapters to celebrate this historic milestone; and WHEREAS, As we look to a vibrant future on the threshold of our next 100 years, the League members across North and Central San Mateo County continue to recruit and invite members and activists who share the League’s commitment to “Making Democracy Work”; and WHEREAS, The League’s historic commitment to register, educate and mobilize voters is not only stronger, but more effective than ever, utilizing such tools as VOTE411.org—a cutting-edge election information website utilized by millions of voters each election cycle. NOW, THEREFORE, WE, the members of the Millbrae City Council, do hereby proclaim: MARCH 8, 2020 AS INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY AND THE CENTENNIAL OF THE 19th AMENDMENT and congratulate the League of Women Voters on their 100th Anniversary. _________________________________ Reuben D.
