HomeMy Public PortalAbout10-8144 Peoples Transportation Plan Sponsored by: Mayor Kelley Resolution No. 10-8144 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF OPA-LOCKA, FLORIDA, TO SUPPORT THE PEOPLE'S TRANSPORTATION PLAN (PTP) FUNDING AND URGES THE MIAMI-DADE COUNTY BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONER TO PROVIDE FUNDING FOR THE NEW CITIES OUT OF THE COUNTY'S EIGHTY PERCENT(80%)SHARE OF THE SURTAX;PROVIDING FOR INCORPORATION OF RECITALS;PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, the People's Transportation Plan (PTP) commits to adding more buses, bus routes, improving service, expanding rapid transit and creating thousands of transportation and construction-related jobs throughout Miami-Dade County; and WHEREAS, the PTP is the group of transportation and transit projects set forth in Miami- Dade County Ordinance No. 02-116 subject to amendments that became collectively known as the People's Transportation Plan (PTP); and WHEREAS, the People's Transportation Plan fund is a special fund adopted by Ordinance No. 02-116 which provides that Surtax proceeds collected are deposited in a special fund; and WHEREAS,the agreed upon proposal provided that 20% of the revenue generated by the half-cent sales tax shall be distributed to the cities in existence at the time the tax was approved;and WHEREAS, the City Commission of the City of Opa-locka desires to support the funding of the People's Transportation Plan(PTP)for new cities,provided that said funding should be taken from the County's 80% of the funds, not the 20% currently allocated to existing cities: NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF OPA-LOCKA,FLORIDA: Resolution No. 10-8144 Section 1. The recitals to the preamble herein are incorporated by reference. Section 2. The City Commission of the City of Opa-Locka,Florida support and urges the Miami-Dade County Board of County Commissioners to provide funding for the new cities out of the County's eighty percent (80%) share of the People's Transportation Plan (PTP) Surtax funds. Section 3. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon adoption.
