The summer of 2019 functioned as a pilot to determine appropriatelocation, capacity, and activities for future concerts. The pilot program was successful and future serieswere deemed to be appropriate. The events will take place on the 300 Block of Broadway, and willfeature live music, a beer garden in Pape's/Bacchus' parking lot, family games, and will also highlightmerchants of Downtown Millbrae. Portable restrooms will be located on the sidewalk east ofBroadwayand on the north side ofHillcrest adjacent to California Bank & Tmst.FISCAL IMPACT:There is no budgetary impact to this action as funds have been allocated for the bands and soundengineers, and sponsorships are also being solicited. This request will provide great community benefit, and City staff will be performing street closures, stage setup, and generally overseeing the event. Thebeer garden will be directed by Fiddler's Green ofMillbrae. The event will be heavily marketed through various venues, and all downtown merchants in the affectedareas will once again be visited by staff. As a result of the event there may be an increase of revenuefrom sales tax resulting from increased foot traffic in the downtown area. The closure of the streets maypose inconveniences to businesses reducing potential customers as a result of street closures, but staffwill help to mitigate this inconvenience by posting directional signage for parking. An SMC Alert willalso be released to notify individuals of potential delays and closures.Page 1 of 2 COUNCIL ACTION:Staff recommends that the City Council approve, by motion, the closure ofBroadway between Hillcrestand La Cruz on May 7th, June 4th, July 2nd, August 6th, and October 1st, 2020 from 12:00 pm- 9:00 pm.Page 2 of 2
