RESOLUTION No. 10-8147
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF
OPA-LOCKA, FLORIDA TO AUTHORIZE THE CITY MANAGER
TO ACCEPT THE AWARD OF FUNDS FROM THE
DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE AND THROUGH MIAMI-DADE
COUNTY OFFICE OF GRANTS COORDINATION TO ACCEPT
AND EXPEND THE FY2011 EDWARD BYRNE MEMORIAL
JUSTICE ASSISTANCE GRANT (JAG), IN THE AMOUNT OF
FOUR THOUSAND SEVEN HUNDRED AND FORTY-TWO
DOLLARS ($4,742.00), AND TO EXECUTE AN AGREEMENT
WITH THE PURPOSE OF CONTINUING THE SCHOOL
RESOURCE OFFICER PROGRAM; PROVIDING FOR
INCORPORATIONS OF RECITALS; PROVIDING FOR AN
EFFECTIVE DATE
WHEREAS, the Department of Justice Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance award
is based on the recommendation of the Miami-Dade County; and
WHEREAS, the funds from the JAG award will be used to continue the City's school
resource officer program; and
WHEREAS, the City Commission of the City of Opa-locka desires to authorize the City
Manager to accept the Department of Justice FY11 Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance
Grant of$4,742.00, for the funding of the City's School Resource Officer:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF
THE CITY OF OPA-LOCKA,FLORIDA:
Section 1. The recitals to the preamble herein are incorporated by reference.
Section 2. The City Commission of the City of Opa-locka, hereby authorizes and directs
the City Manager to accept the Department of Justice Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance
Grant (JAG) Grant in the amount of Four Thousand Seven Hundred-and Forty-Two Dollars
($4,742.00), available through Miami-Dade County, and execute the agreement with the purpose of
continuing the school resource officer program.

Section 3. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon adoption.

Request: STAFF IS REQUESTING THAT THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY
OF OPA-LOCKA AUTHORIZE THE CITY MANAGER TO ACCEPT THE
AWARD OF GRANT FUNDS FROM THE DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE
AND THROUGH MIAMI-DADE COUNTY OFFICE OF GRANTS

Description: The proceeds from the JAG award will be used to continue the City's school resource officer
program.
Financial Impact: No Fiscal Impact. One hundred percent of the proceeds are grant dollars.
