HomeMy Public PortalAbout10-8154 Honoring Five Opa-locka High School Seniors Sponsored by: Commissioner Miller Resolution No. 10-8154 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF OPA-LOCKA,FLORIDA, TO HOLD A MARTIN LUTHER KING PARADE AND THE 1ST ANNUAL SALUTE TO GREATNESS DINNER AND SCHOLARSHIP AWARDS ON JANUARY 14, 2011, ALL PROCEEDS TO HONOR FIVE OPA-LOCKA HIGH SCHOOL SENIORS WITH GPA OF 3.5 AND HIGHER WITH $1500.00 SCHOLARSHIPS;AT A COST OF$7500.00,PAYABLE FROM ACCOUNT NUMBER 20-579403;; PROVIDING FOR INCORPORATION OF RECITALS; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, the City Commission of the City of Opa-locka desires to hold a Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Parade and the 1st Annual Salute to Greatness Dinner; and WHEREAS, the City Commission of the City of Opa-locka would like to set aside January 14, 2011 in honor and remembrance of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.; and WHEREAS, proceed from the dinner will be used to provide scholarship awards to five Opa-locka high school seniors who have a GPA of 3.5 or higher; and WHEREAS,the five High School students selected by the City Commission will be honored with a$1,500 scholarship for each; and NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF OPA-LOCKA,FLORIDA: Section 1. The recitals to the preamble herein are incorporated by reference. Section 2. The City Commission of the City of Opa-locka hereby authorizes the hosting of the Martin Luther King Parade and the 1st Annual Salute to Greatness Dinner and Scholarship Resolution No. 10-8154 Awards on January 14,2011,at a cost of$7500.00 as set forth above,payable from Account Number 20-579403; Section 3.
