HomeMy Public PortalAbout10-8164 National Sanctity of Life Day Sponsored by: Commissioner Tydus Resolution No. 10-8164 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF OPA-LOCKA, FLORIDA, TO RECOGNIZE SUNDAY, JANUARY 16, 2011 AS NATIONAL SANCTITY OF LIFE DAY: PROVIDING FOR INCORPORATION OF RECITALS; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, America was founded on the belief that all men are created equal and have an inalienable right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness - and our country remains committed to upholding that founding principle; and WHEREAS, Our nation continues to progress in its efforts to protect life, and recognizes that each life has inherent dignity and matchless value; and WHEREAS, Today, as our society searches for new ways to ease human suffering, we must pursue the possibilities of science in a manner that respects the sacred gift of life and upholds our moral values WHEREAS, in an effort to protect human life, our nation, has proclaimed the third Sunday in January as National Sanctity of Human Life Day; changing hearts and minds with compassion and decency. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF OPA-LOCKA,FLORIDA: Section 1. The recitals to the preamble herein are incorporated by reference. Section 2. The City Commission of the City of Opa-locka hereby recognizes Sunday, January 16, 2011 as National Sanctity of Human Life Day, encouraging the citizens of this community to underscore commitment to respecting and protecting the life and dignity of every human being — reaffirming steadfast determination to defend and protect life of all members of society at all stages .
