HomeMy Public PortalAbout1988-081i Member its adoption: introduced the following resolution and moved CITY OF MEDINAQ Q RESOLUTION NO. �/ f <% RESOLUTION OPPOSING LOCATION OF A TEMPORARY DESIGNATION POINT FOR MIXED MUNICIPAL SOLID WASTE WITHIN MEDINA WHEREAS, in 1985 Hennepin County adopted an ordinance (Ordinance No. 12) relating to the operation and location of various facilities relating to the disposal of mixed municipal solid waste within the county; and WHEREAS, Ordinance No. 12 specifies the location of four transfer station sites to be used in connection with the mass burn plant and refuse derived fuel facilities under construction in Minneapolis and Elk River, respectively; and WHEREAS, one or more of the transfer stations proposed in 1985 will not be in operation by the time the mass burn and RFD facilities are ready to accept solid waste in mid-1989; and WHEREAS, Hennepin county has proposed to amend Ordinance No. 12 to designate certain temporary transfer station sites, one of which is proposed for the corner of Co. Rds. 19 and 201 in Medina; and WHEREAS, Medina currently has a 200 acre sanitary landfill within its boundaries and is the proposed site for a county composting facility; and WHEREAS, the Medina City Council believes that Medina has already shouldered its share of the solid waste disposal burden within the metro- politan area. I+ NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Medina that Medina is opposed to the proposed amendment of Hennepin County Ordinance No. 12 to include a temporary transfer site within Medina.
