HomeMy Public PortalAbout11-8173 Condemn the Shooting Rampage in Arizona Sponsored by: Commissioner Holmes Resolution No. 11-8173 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF OPA-LOCKA, FLORIDA, TO CONDEMN THE SHOOTING RAMPAGE IN ARIZONA WHICH LEFT SIX (6) PEOPLE DEAD AND FOURTEEN (14) WOUNDED, TO MOURN FOR THOSE WHO DIED, AND EXPRESS SYMPATHY AND SUPPORT FOR THE FAMILIES OF THOSE WHO LOST THEIR LIVES AND THOSE WHO WERE INJURED; PROVIDING FOR INCORPORATION OF RECITALS; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Opa-locka condemns the violent act of the shooting rampage in Arizona; and WHEREAS, on January 8, 2011, twenty people were shot when a gunman opened fire, killing six (including a nine-year old girl) and wounding fourteen at a congressional constituent forum; and WHEREAS,U.S. Representative Gabrielle Giffords was wounded and was the apparent target of the gunman's attack; and WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Opa-locka mourns those who lost their lives in the attack; and WHEREAS, City Council of the City of Opa-locka expresses their support and sympathy to the families of the deceased and the injured. NOW,THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF OPA-LOCKA,FLORIDA: Section 1. The recitals to the preamble herein are incorporated by reference. Section 2. The City Commission of the City of Opa-locka, condemns the shooting in Arizona which left six (6) people dead and fourteen (14) wounded, including U.S. House Representative Resolution No. 11-8173 Gabrielle Giffords. The City Commission further mourns those who lost their lives and expresses support and sympathy to the families of those who lost their lives and those who were injured. Section 3. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon adoption.
