FI~I~VCING FOR. OUR STREETS A1~'D HIGi-irdAYS PRGGRAl`QS .
WHEREAS, inflation and declining consuTnption of motor
vehicle fuels in California have drastically reduced the purchasing
power of the revenues generated by the 7~ nor galloh gasoline a^~~
diesel fuel.tax that was last. increased in 1963; and
WHEREAS, other sources of funds available for maintenance.
and operation Tay be reduced, and/or eliminated; and
WHEREAS, the investment in streets and highways throughout
the State is too great. to allow them to further deteriorate
to a condition beyond repair; and
WHEREAS, that.anpears to be inevitable if additional.
revenues are not made available to maintain these highway systenis-
im safe, fuel and. cost effective conditions; and
WHEREAS,."there is a need to provide for new construction
and reconstruction of local streets and highways; and
I WHEREAS.,. Senators Foran, Speraw, .dills, Johnson and
~ATquist, in conjunction with Assemblymen Young and Ingalls,
have introduced SB215, which., if enacted as introduced, takes.
some positive action towards providing additional fur_ding for
our streets and highways programs.
VOW, THEREFORE, BE IT. P.ESOLVED AS FOLLO[^7S
1.. That the City Council of the City of. Lynwood earnestly
supports SB215 as introduced. +
2. That the City Clerk shall certify to the adoation
of this resolution and submit copies to Senators Foran, Spera~~,
~?i11s, Johnson and Alquist, and Assemblymen Ycung and Ingalls,
the League of .California Cities and the Los Ar_geles County
