RD. 116 IN THE CITIES OF ORONO AND MEDINA WHEREAS, the extension of County Road 116 has been on the City of Medina's Comp- rehensive Plan for many years, and WHEREAS, the construction of County Road 116 will greatly enhance the City of Medina's emergency response capabilities, and WHEREAS, the county's road standards are better than those of the City of Medina's, thus providing for better traffic and recreation routes, and WHEREAS, the maintenance of some existing City of Medina roads will be taken over by the county, and WHEREAS, the City of Medina is under 5,000 population and does not qualify for Minnesota State Aid Roads, and WHEREAS, the construction of County Road 116 will cost $2.9 million, which is more than the City of Medina can afford, and WHEREAS,the City of Orono as well as all cities of the City of Medina's size have more county roads than the City of Medina, and WHEREAS, with this resolution the City of Medina reaffirms its commitment to the construction of County Road 116, and WHEREAS, Hennepin County has placed the extension of County Road 116 on it's 1990 road construction plan, WHEREAS, County Road 116 will end at the City of Orono border if the City of Orono does not permit it to extend further south, and WHEREAS, traffic will probably increase on the City of Orono streets, and at the intersection of Willow Drive and Highway 12, and WHEREAS, the City of Medina will support the City of Orono in obtaining a stop light at Willow Drive and Highway 12 if the City of Orono permits County Road 116 to extend to Highway 12, and WHEREAS, the extension of County Road 116 is good for the City of Orono for the same reasons as it is for the city of Medina, now THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council of Medina goes on record recommending that the City of Orono allow County Road 116 to extend to U.S. Highway 12.
