HomeMy Public PortalAbout11-8202 National Day of Prayer Sponsored by: Commissioner Tydus RESOLUTION NO. 11-8202 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF OPA LOCKA, FLORIDA, TO RECOGNIZE MAY 5, 2011 AS NATIONAL DAY OF PRAYER WITHIN THE CITY OF OPA-LOCKA, AND THIS YEAR'S THEME SHALL BE "A MIGHTY FORTRESS IS OUR GOD"; PROVIDING FOR INCORPORATION OF RECITALS; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, the National Day of Prayer is an annual day of observance held on the first Thursday of May, designated by the United States of Congress, in which millions of American unite in prayer, a day when people are asked "to turn to God in prayer and meditation"; and WHEREAS, the City of Commission of the City of Opa-locka has participated previously in the observance of National Day of Prayer; and WHEREAS, the City Commission of the City of Opa-locka desires to recognize Thursday, May 5, 2011 as National Day of Prayer, and the theme shall be "A Mighty Fortress is Our God". NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF OPA LOCKA,FLORIDA: Section 1. The recitals to the preamble are hereby incorporated by reference. Resolution No. 11-8202 Section 2. The City Commission of the City of Opa-locka, Florida, hereby recognizes May 5, 2011 as National Day of Prayer within the City of Opa-locka, and this year theme shall be "A Mighty Fortress is Our God". Section 3. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon adoption.
