The Town outsources legal services to two different legal firms. In addition, the Town may occasionally
need additional legal services pertaining to a specific legal specialty that would also be paid from this
operating budget. All requests for legal services do require pre-authorization from the Town
Administrator for review and approval.
The Legal Services annual operating budget includes the following:
Professional / Labor Expenditures: The labor portion of the budget is used to pay for costs associated
with legal representation from Rubin & Rubin. The labor counsel is appointed by the Selectboard.
Examples of expenditures in this category would pertain to union and personnel related negotiations,
grievance / mediation resolution, and associated labor laws.
Professional / Town Expenditures: The town has retained KP, Law to serve as Town Counsel and is
also appointed by the Selectboard. Examples of expenditures in this category pertain to land, special and
annual town meeting warrant articles, special and annual town meeting proceedings, and finance laws.
