Welcome Chantel welcomed everyone. Approval of Minutes Monty made the motion to approve the Better Hometown Board of Directors minutes from October 20, 2010. Stephen seconded the motion. All were in favor. Committee Work Plans/Updates Design Cullen commended Chantel for the work she did on putting together the Carbo House historic plaque presentation ceremony and for the press releases she wrote. There was front page coverage in the Savannah Morning News. Cullen noted that it was good to have positive publicity for Tybee. Chantel reported that she spoke with Mr. Gleason in Cleveland again about the status of the Memorial Bench Plaque program. Chantel confirmed DPW will mount the plaques. Cullen commended Chantel on the smoke basins on top of trash cans. One business owner of a restaurant on Tybrisa is not thrilled with them, but a majority of others are saying they look much better. Cullen said it makes the street looks more uniform and he is talking with his staff about going down to pressure wash the sidewalk. If it works it could be done periodically. Shirley asked if the City did that and Cullen said that DPW said they would work with us on that issue. Chantel reported to the board that the owners of the Rockhouse want to put the drains in the ground in order to prevent the water stains on the sidewalk. They are working with DPW on this issue. They have pressure washed the sidewalks in front of the Rockhouse and their other stores along Tybrisa four (4) times already. They try to keep the sidewalks looking good, but it is difficult. Economic Restructuring Monty and Chantel reported that the Locals Appreciation Cards are in and will be available on November 29. Stephen paid for the glossy business card size cards and Monty assisted in the design. Chantel will track the participation and monitor the success. The by-laws call for seven directors; two of which represent arts and cultural interests. Currently the board has eight directors and the Department of Community Affairs recommends having an odd number of directors overseeing the program. Monty and Dick are residents, which is allowable according to the by-laws. Cullen asked if the by-laws could reflect one more director representing the arts and cultural interests. He said we have an able and willing person who attends the meetings. Approved: 1/19/11 Page 2 of 2 A copy will be given to given to City Council and Chantel said a decision can wait until the next board meeting. Paul asked if the by-laws could state 􀍞no fewer than seven (7) or no more than eleven (11)􀍟 in order to not exclude anyone that wants to serve. Monty asked if it could be a 􀍞􀆉􀄂􀆐􀆚􀀃􀄏􀆵􀆐􀅝􀅶􀄞􀆐􀆐􀀃􀅽􀇁􀅶􀄞􀆌􀍘􀍟􀀃􀀃􀀒􀅚􀄂􀅶􀆚􀄞􀅯􀀃􀆐 􀅝􀄚􀀃the board does need to address this and asked Paul if Council would object to nine. Paul said no. Cullen said that might open the door for more people who are interested. Stephen discussed wanting to include the Tybee nursing homes more with the Better Hometown program. He has been talking with their events coordinator and has learned that the residents enjoy when people bring dogs to visit. He recommended having volunteers rake the bocce ball court to give them a recreational area within walking distance. There are 110 residents there and would like the board to be more involved and them more involved in the program. Old Town Savannah Tours is going to be in the Holiday parade and will be going by the nursing home to pick up 25 residents for free. The nursing home is thrilled. He says they are under new management and thinks we should keep it on our agenda. 􀁞􀅚􀅝􀆌􀅯􀄞􀇇􀀃􀆐􀄂􀅝􀄚􀀃􀁞􀆚􀄞􀆉􀅚􀄞􀅶􀍛􀆐􀀃􀆉􀅽􀅝􀅶􀆚 􀀃􀅝􀆐􀀃well-taken and confirmed they are for-profit. Stephen reported that there is a local organization that has an annual holiday gathering with the residents and Pirate Fest takes their Pirate Crew over to the Nursing Home once a year. Cullen encouraged everyone to support this endeavor and BHT should do what it can. He encourages his staff to be involved. Chantel said the BHT Newsletters are going well and would like more information to be included from the board. Promotions Stephen and Chantel stated everything is going well with Tybee for the Holidays. Chantel sent a newsletter out today about Decorating Day. She has looked at the decorations from last year and we should have enough. Haley at the YMCA has been been working with staff and volunteers to decorate shoeboxes for the Christmas tree at the roundabout. Joe told Chantel he will put the tree up early. Karen Kelly is working with the choirs for Lights on for Tybee. Parade applications are still coming in for the Holiday Parade. WRHQ-FM will be heavily promoting the 􀄨􀅝􀆌􀆐􀆚􀀃􀇁􀄞􀄞􀅬􀄞􀅶􀄚􀀃􀅽􀄨􀀃􀀘􀄞􀄐􀄞􀅵􀄏􀄞􀆌􀀃􀄂􀄐􀆚􀅝􀇀􀅝􀆚􀅝􀄞􀆐􀀃􀇁􀅝􀆚􀅚 􀆚􀅚􀄞􀅝􀆌􀀃􀍞􀇁􀄞􀄞􀅬􀄞􀅶􀄚􀀃􀄏􀅯􀅽􀇁-􀅽􀆵􀆚􀍟􀀃􀆉􀄂􀄐􀅬􀄂􀅐􀄞􀀃􀆚􀅚􀄞􀀃􀇁􀄞􀄞􀅬􀄞􀅶􀄚􀀃􀆉􀆌􀅝􀅽􀆌. Chantel is working with Susan Kelleher on the Shop and Stroll. She received the information and sent it to the businesses. Susan is working with stores near her. Chantel is sending out the Parking Survey link to businesses next weekend. Joe Wilson will hang 􀆚􀅚􀄞􀀃􀍞􀄨􀆌􀄞􀄞􀀃 􀅽􀅯􀅝􀄚􀄂􀇇􀀃􀆉􀄂􀆌􀅬􀅝􀅶􀅐􀍟􀀃banner up as soon as he can. Cullen said we should encourage businesses to return the survey to let the City know what they feel the impact is on their business because the City does lose business. New Business None Adjourn Monty made the motion to adjourn the meeting at 6:40pm. Stephen seconded the motion. All were in favor. Cullen noted that we were more efficient at this meeting than we have ever been and we should strive to continue at future meetings.
