The Veterans Services budget allocates funds for benefits as well as the Memorial Day and Veteran’s Day
Ceremonies.
Veterans Benefits Expenditures: The Veterans benefits provide a certain level of monthly benefits
including prescription reimbursements, when applicable. The Town pays 50% and the State pays 50% of
the expenditures each year. The Department of Veteran’s services located in Barnstable, MA manages
the veteran’s benefits for all Cape Cod Communities with the exception of Falmouth.
Memorial and Veterans Day Ceremonies: The Town’s veteran’s organization members hold our annual
ceremonies for the recognition of both Memorial Day and Veterans Day using these limited funds. The
appropriation pays for flags and related parade expenses.

Note: Increase in FY2018 is based upon upward trend in benefit requests. The request of $74,800 for FY2018 was received after the budget was voted. A request to increase the budget will occur at
the Spring Special Town Meeting. The change in the Municipal Modernization Act pertaining to increased veterans real estate abatements are incorporated in the overlay / abatement appropriation.
