Prepared by: Clancy Huckleberry End of Memorandum 2 MEMORANDUM TO: Cheryl Cason DATE: March 29, 2011 Chief of Police erardo 0. De Los Rios SUBJECT: Proposed Vehicle Lease Program Sergeant, Administration Division Currently the City leases five vehicles from Royal and Thrifty Rental Cars at a total cost of$3985.10 a month which totals $47,821.20 a year. These vehicles are currently being used by command staff and V.I.N. unit members of the police department. The proposal is to lease Ford explorers for captains, majors, and sergeants that will also serve as high water vehicles during urban flooding. This program will also allow the current captains and sergeants who are using marked patrol units to relinquish them back to road patrol for use by new hires. The price to lease these vehicles under the Sheriff's award bid (10-18-0907) is $21,256.00 each and eleven are needed. The total purchasing cost for the needed vehicles is $233,816.00. If purchase lease is divided in payments of 60 months estimated monthly cost would be $3896.93, giving the City six additional vehicles and saving $88.17 a month, from what we are currently paying to rent five.
