HomeMy Public PortalAbout11-8270 National Red Ribbon Campaign Sponsored by: Vice-Mayor Johnson RESOLUTION NO. 11-8270 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF OPA-LOCKA, FLORIDA, TO PARTICIPATE IN THE NATIONAL RED RIBBON CAMPAIGN, A DRUG PREVENTION PROGRAM REACHING MILLIONS OF YOUNG PEOPLE DURING RED RIBBON WEEK, OCTOBER 23 THROUGH OCTOBER 31; PROVIDING FOR INCORPORATION OF RECITALS; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE WHEREAS, the first Red Ribbon Week was proclaimed in 1988 by U.S. Congress in support of Agent Camarena and the cause he gave his life for; and WHEREAS, Red Ribbon week is a positive way for the residents of the City of Opa- locka to unite and take a visible stand against drugs, and show their personal commitment to a drug-free lifestyle through the symbol of the Red Ribbon; and WHEREAS, the City Commission of the City of Opa-locka desires to participate in the National Red Ribbon Campaign, one of the oldest and largest drug prevention programs in the nation, which is observed during October 23 through October 31; and. WHEREAS, the City Commission of the City of Opa-locka desires to recognize and participate in the Red Ribbon Campaign, starting October 23 through October 31, 2011. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF OPA-LOCKA,FLORIDA: Section 1. The recitals to the preamble herein are incorporated by reference. Section 2. The City Commission of the City of Opa-locka hereby recognizes and approves participation in the Red Ribbon Campaign starting October 23 through October 31, 2011. Section 3. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon adoption. Resolution No. 11-8270 PASSED AND ADOPTED this 14th day of September, 2011.
