HomeMy Public PortalAboutExhibit MSD 69- Elaine Laura's letter regarding unmetered water & sewer billingsExhibit MSD 69 I have enclosed two sewer bills — one metered water, St. Louis County, and — one unmetered water based upon inaccurate attributes, St. Louis City — each unit has one occupant. The StL Water Division needs support and encouragement to live up to its mission as highlighted in the Fiscal Year 23 Annual Operating Plan, page 119, "...Customer Service's mission is to provide professional and friendly services while meeting the fiscal and legal requirements of the Water division. The program is responsible for providing all information to produce accurate water bills for 79,234 flat rate and 12,804 metered customers..." Years ago during talks about the merging of the City and County there was a St. Louis Post Dispatch Editorial that described the Metropolitan Sewer District as a great example of "Better Together." I beg to differ. The City's sixty-six square miles of MSD's five hundred and twenty, 520 square miles service area is being drastically overcharged by MSD as unmetered water consumers as the enclosed bills illustrate, utilizing inaccurate attributes. Finally, the time is now to right a horrific wrong. The outdated and inequitable billing systems of both the St. Louis City Water Department and the Metropolitan St Louis Sewer District must stop. I think the State of Missouri, Metropolitan Sewer District and the City of St. Louis Water Department working together will be able to split the cost of installing residential water meters to all StL unmetered water consumers that would like one. Let's Level the Playing Field, Install Water Meters and produce accurate bills based upon actual water usage. Thank you, Elaine Laura, , Community Advocate
