HomeMy Public PortalAbout11-8299 2012 Edward Byrne Memorial Grant Sponsored by: City Manager Resolution No. 11-8299 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF OPA-LOCKA TO AUTHORIZE THE CITY MANAGER TO ACCEPT THE AWARD OF GRANT FUNDS FROM THE DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE AND THROUGH MIAMI-DADE COUNTY OFFICE OF GRANTS COORDINATION, AND TO EXPEND AND AMEND THE FY 2012 EDWARD J. BYRNE MEMORIAL JUSTICE ASSISTANCE GRANT (JAG) IN THE AMOUNT OF THREE THOUSAND SEVEN HUNDRED AND FORTY-TWO DOLLARS($3,742)AND EXECUTE AGREEMENT WITH THE PURPOSE OF CONTINUING THE RECORD IMPROVEMENT PROGRAM; PROVIDING FOR INCORPORATION OF RECITALS; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE WHEREAS, the Opa-locka Police Department (OLPD) is striving to improve its management system; and WHEREAS, the funds from the FY 2012 Byrne Grant will be utilized to pay overtime hours to the employees (Record and Property personnel) who will be handling the conversion of processing paper reports, documents and seized property information into electronic format; and WHEREAS, the City Commission of the City of Opa-locka desires to authorize the City Manager to accept the award from the Department of Justice and Miami-Dade County. NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF OPA-LOCKA,FLORIDA: Section 1. The recitals to the preamble herein are incorporated by reference. Section 2. The City Commission of the City of Opa-locka,hereby authorizes and directs the City Manager to accept,expend and amend the Department of Justice FY 2012 Edward Byrne Resolution No. 11-8299 Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG), in the amount of Three Thousand Seven Hundred-and Forty-Two Dollars($3,742.00),available through Miami-Dade County,and execute the agreement for the purpose of continuing the Record Improvement Program. Section 3. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon adoption. PASSED AND ADOPTED THIS 26th DAY OF October,2011. Description: The Opa-locka Police Department (OLPD) is striving to improve its records management system. The OLPD will utilize the FY 2012 Byrne Grant funds to pay overtime hours to record and property personnel to convert paper reports, documents, and seized property information into accessible electronic reports.
