RESOLUTION NO. 11-8303
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF OPA-LOCKA, FLORIDA, TO AUTHORIZE THE
CITY MANAGER TO ENTER INTO AN INTERLOCAL
AGREEMENT WITH MIAMI-DADE TRANSIT FOR THE
OPERATION OF THE BUS SHUTTLE SERVICE FOR
THE CITY OF OPA-LOCKA; PROVIDING FOR
INCORPORATION OF RECITALS; PROVIDING AN
EFFECTIVE DATE
WHEREAS, the City of Opa-locka has operated a bus shuttle service since February 1,
2011, to enhance service for underserved areas that utilize the Miami-Dade County Transit
Service; and
WHEREAS, the scheduled transit circulator service connects with existing Miami-Dade
Transit (MDT) services and increase the use of services provided by MDT; and
WHEREAS, an interlocal agreement with Miami-Dade Transit is required for the
operation of additional transit services for the City of Opa-locka, and allows the City to operate
without further restriction; and
WHEREAS, the City Commission of the City of Opa-locka desires that the City
Manager enter into an interlocal agreement with Miami-Dade Transit for the operation of the Bus
Shuttle services..
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF
THE CITY OF OPA-LOCKA,FLORIDA:
Section 1. The recitals to the preamble herein are incorporated by reference.
Section 2. The City Commission of the City of Opa-locka authorizes the City Manager to
enter into an Interlocal Agreement with Miami-Dade Transit for the operation of the Bus Shuttle
Service for the City Of Opa-Locka.

Section 3. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon adoption.

RE: Miami Dade Interlocal Agreement for Operating Transit Service
Request: APPROVAL OF A RESOLUTION TO AUTHORIZE THE CITY MANAGER TO ENTER
INTO AN INTERLOCAL AGREEMENT WITH MIAMI DADE TRANSIT FOR THE OPERATION
OF THE BUS SHUTTLE SERVICES IN THE CITY OF OPA-LOCKA.
Description: The City of Opa-locka operates a bus shuttle service since February 1, 2011, to complement
the existing Miami Dade County Transit service. An interlocal agreement with Miami Dade Transit is
required for any municipality to operate additional transit service. The interlocal agreement defines the
parameters of the service within the County's existing system.
Financial Impact: No financial impact
Implementation Time Line: On execution of the agreement, Miami Dade Transit will present to the
County Board of Commissioners for approval. The Opa-locka bus shuttle is in service since February 1,
2011.
Recommendation(s):
Staff recommends approval in order to be compliant with Miami-Dade Transit.
Analysis: The regularly scheduled transit circulator service connects with existing Miami-Dade Transit
(MDT) services and does help increase the use of services provided by MDT. The bus shuttle complements
the existing Miami Dade Transit service and meets the underserved areas on the City. The interlocal
agreement allows the City to operate without further restriction.
