HomeMy Public PortalAbout12-8322 MDC for Youth Crime Prevention Program Sponsored by: City Manager RESOLUTION NO. 12-8322 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF OPA-LOCKA, FLORIDA, TO AUTHORIZE THE CITY MANAGER TO ACCEPT A MIAMI-DADE COUNTY GRANT FOR THE CITY OF OPA-LOCKA YOUTH CRIME PREVENTION PROGRAM IN THE AMOUNT OF FORTY-ONE THOUSAND SIX HUNDRED AND FIFTY DOLLARS ($41,650.00); PROVIDING FOR INCORPORATION OF RECITALS; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE WHEREAS,the City of Opa-locka has received grant funds from Miami-Dade County for the City of Opa-locka Youth Crime Prevention Program from FY 2009 to 2011; and WHEREAS, Miami -Dade County has now approved a continuation of the Grant Funding for FY 20011-2012 in the amount of$41,650.00. WHEREAS,the proceeds from the Miami-Dade Grant will be used to prevent at-risk youth, ages 8 through 18, from returning or being involved in criminal and/or deviant activities; and WHEREAS,the Miami-Dade Grant is 100%grant dollars,with no City match required;and WHEREAS, the City Commission desires to accept the Miami-Dade Grant for the city of Opa-locka Youth Crime Prevention Program in the amount of Forty-One Thousand Six Hundred and Fifty Dollars ($41,650.00). NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF OPA-LOCKA, FLORIDA: Section 1. The recitals to the preamble herein are incorporated by reference. Resolution No. 12-8322 Section 2. The City Commission of the City of Opa-locka,Florida,hereby authorizes and directs the City Manager to accept the Miami-Dade County grant for the City of Opa-locka Youth Crime Prevention Program in the amount of Forty-One Thousand Six Hundred and Fifty Dollars ($41,650.00), and to execute all necessary documents to accomplish that purpose. Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect immediately upon adoption. PASSED AND ADOPTED THIS 11th day of January, 2012. Request: STAFF IS REQUESTING THAT THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF OPA-LOCKA AUTHORIZE THE ACCEPTANCE OF THE MIAIVII- DADE COUNTY GRANT IN THE AMOUNT OF FORTY-ONE THOUSAND SIX HUNDRED AND FIFTY DOLLARS ($41,650.00) Description: The proceeds from this award will be used to prevent at-risk youth between the ages of eight (8) to eighteen (18) years of age from becoming involved in or returning to criminal or deviant activities. Financial Impact: No Fiscal Impact. One hundred percent of the proceeds are grant dollars. Implementation Timeline: Immediately Legislative History: None Recommendation(s): Staff recommends approval. Analysis: This is a continuation award. The City received funds for this program for FY 2009 to 2011. This recommendation is based on the Miami-Dade Contract.
