AN ORDINANCE OFTHE CITY OF JEFFERSON, MISSOURI,AMENDING CHAPTER 22
OF THE CODE PERTAINING TO PARKING IN FIRE LANES.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF JEFFERSON, MISSOURI, AS
FOLLOWS:
Section 1. Chapter 22 (Parking) Section 6 (Places where prohibited at all times
generally) Subsection Al is amended as follows:
Sec.22-6.Places where prohibited at all times generally.
A. Except where necessary to avoid conflict with other traffic or when complying with the
directions of a police officer or traffic control device,no person shall:
1. Stop,stand or park a vehicle:
a. On the roadway side of any vehicle stopped or parked at the
edge or curb of a roadway.
b. Within the right-of-way of any public street or roadway,so
that all or any portion of the vehicle is between the curb or
curbline and a public sidewalk on the same side of the street or
roadway as such curb or curbline.
C. On a sidewalk.
d. Within an intersection.
e. On a crosswalk.
f. Alongside or opposite any street excavation or obstruction
when traffic would be further obstructed thereby.
g. Upon any bridge or elevated structure or upon any highway,
viaduct or ramp.
h. Upon any access road to,or exit road from, a federal or state
highway,that is on the highway right-of-way.
i. On any railroad track.
j. At any place where signs prohibit stopping.
k. At any street-alley intersection,for a distance of fifteen(15)
feet on each side of the alley.
I. In a desienated fire lane,as defined in Chapter 13 of the
Code of the City of Jefferson.

Section 2. Chapter 13 (Parking) Section 43 (Amendments, deletions
and insertions) (8) of the Code is amended as follows:
8. Add sections 511.0 5 HH through 511.3
511.0 Fire Lanes
(A) The fire chief may designate fire lanes on private and public property.Fire lanes may
be established on driveways and access roads required by the zoning ordinances
applicable to the property in question,provided that fire lanes may not he established
on property containing one-or two-family residential dwellings.
(B) Upon notice by the fire chief of designation of a fire lane, it shall be the dutv of the
owner, occupant, or his agent, of the premises upon which the fire lane has been
designated, to identify the location of fire lane on the owners property.
(C) The Fire Lane shall be identified by Placing a sign at each end of the fire lane in
accordance with section 511.1 and by marline the pavement and/or curb in accordance
with 511.2. The Fire Chief may permit the property owner to designated by only one
of those methods if he finds there is a hardship in identification by both methods.
(D) Ira property owner disagrees with the determination of the Fire Chief as to the location
of the Fire Lane or determination on a request for a hardship,the property owner may
appeal the decision to Board of Adjustment.
511.1 Fire Lane Signs
(A) Signs designating fire lanes shall comply with the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control
Devices. Such signs shall be rectangular in shape with a white background and red letters
stating"FIRE LANE NO PARKING".
(B) The signs described in subsection A of this section shall be posted in the following manner:
(i) at each end of a fire lane which exceeds thirty(30)feet in length with signs which
can be read from each direction;
(ii) midway between the ends of a fire lane less than thirty(30)feet in length with the
signs to be posted to the right of the traffic way and to be legible from the roadway.
511.2 Fire lane curb marking:
(A) Curbs,or pavement if there are no curbs,in a fire lane shall be painted with a stripe at least
three(3)inches wide.
(B) The paint to be used in complying with subsection A of this section shall be yellow in color.
If there are other restricted parking zones in the area of the fire lane, the paint shall be red
in color.
(C) The yellow or red striping marking a fire lane shall not be a part of,and shall be distinctly
different from,any other restricted parking striping used in the area of the fire lane.
(D) The curb or pavement shall include a rectangular shape with a white or red letters
stating "FIRE LANE NO PARKING".

Section 2. This Ordinance shall be in full force and effect from and after
the date of its passage and approval.
