Short Title:
Resolution to request stormwater improvement funds from the South Florida Water Management
District (SFWMD)to address continuous flooding in the Nile Gardens area.
Staff Summary:
The Opa-locka Community Development Corporation has requested that the City of Opa-locka pass a
resolution supporting the Choice Neighborhood Initiative. The City currently does not have a
stormwater master plan. Should the city receive funds from SFWMD, the funds would be used to repair
stormwater infrastructure as well as improve water quality within the Nile Gardens area. Several years
ago, the state appropriated funds through SFWMD to the City of Weston for stormwater infrastructure
improvements in the amount of 1 million dollars.
Proposed Action:
Staff Recommends Approval of this resolution to authorize the City Manager to make requests to the
SFWMD and solicit assistance from the Miami-Dade Delegation to assist in this strategy.
