RESOLUTION NO. 12-8369
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF OPA-LOCKA, FLORIDA TO SUPPORT THE
REQUEST OF THE FLORIDA STATE CONFERENCE OF
THE NAACP FOR THE COMMUNITY RELATIONS
SERVICE OF THE U.S. DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE TO
REVIEW THE SHOOTING DEATH OF UNARMED BLACK
TEENAGER TRAYVON MARTIN IN SANFORD, FLORIDA;
PROVIDING FOR INCORPORATION OF RECITALS;
PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE
WHEREAS, Trayvon Martin, an unarmed black teenager, was shot and killed while
visiting with his father in Sanford, Florida, by a self-appointed volunteer neighborhood watch
captain; and
WHEREAS, the City Commission of the City of Opa-locka supports the call for justice
issued by the Florida State Conference of the NAACP; and
WHEREAS, the City Commission of the City of Opa-locka also requests the
Community Relations Service of the U.S. Department of Justice to review the shooting death of
young Trayvon Martin, who was unarmed.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION
OF THE CITY OF OPA-LOCKA, FLORIDA:
Section 1. The recitals to the preamble are hereby incorporated by reference.
Section 2. The City Commission of the City of Opa-locka hereby supports the
request of the Florida State Conference of the NAACP for the Community Relations Service of
the U.S. Department of Justice to review the shooting death of unarmed black teenager Trayvon
Martin in Sanford, Florida.
Section 3. The City Clerk is authorized and directed to transmit a copy of this resolution to
the Attorney General of the United States, to the Florida State Conference of the NAACP, and to
other interested parties and the media.
Section 4. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon adoption.
