HomeMy Public PortalAbout01.15.2020_Park Commission Meeting MinutesMedina Park Commission Meeting Minutes January 15, 2020 Medina City Hall Page 1 of 3 The Park Commission of Medina, Minnesota met in regular session on January 15, 2020 at 7:00 p.m. at Medina City Hall. Park Commission Chair Steve Lee presided. 1) Call to Order Commissioners Present: Steve Lee, Ann Thies, Terry Sharp, John Jacob, Mary Morrison, Angela Bernhardt Commissioners Absent: Troy Hutchinson Also Present: City Councilmember John Anderson, Public Works Director Steve Scherer, Assistant City Administrator Jodi Gallup 2) Introduction of New Park Commissioners A brief introduction of members took place. 3) Appointment of Officers: Chair, Vice Chair & Secretary A motion was made by Lee and seconded by Jacob to nominate and appoint Ann Thies as Chair. Motion passed unanimously. Chair Ann Thies presided. A motion was made by Lee and seconded by Bernhardt to nominate and appoint Mary Morrison as Vice Chair. Motion passed unanimously. A motion was made by Morrison and seconded by Lee to nominate and appoint Terry Sharp as Secretary. Motion passed unanimously. 4) Additions to the Agenda: Lee requested a discussion of the Asset Inventory List during the 2020 goals agenda item. 5) Approval of the Minutes from: December 18, 2019 Regular Meeting A motion was made by Lee and seconded by Thies to approve the minutes from December 18, 2019 as presented. Motion passed unanimously. 6) Public Comments (on items not on the agenda): None. 7) City Council Update Anderson provided an update to the Park Commission on recent City Council actions. The following goals/actions were created in addition to the goals that were already on the list:  Create a list of available parks and trails grant opportunities with timelines. Subcommittee: Lee, Sharp, Morrison  Municipal Park Fund. Annually review asset inventory, determine life of assets, replacement year, and needed funds for future replacement. Establish process for utilizing funds from the Robert G Mitchell Jr. Designated Beneficiary Fund. Look into possibilities and potential volunteers for creating a separate foundation for park donations. Subcommittee: Lee and Jacob  Diamond Lake Regional Trail. Work with Three Rivers Park District to identify possible locations for the trail. Hold public engagement event during Medina Clean-up Day on April 25th. Subcommittee: Thies and Bernhardt  Hunter Lions Park Future Concept Plan. Subcommittee: Lee, Jacob, Bernhardt  Lakeshore Park Future Concept Plan and Walnut Park signage. Subcommittee: Thies and Hutchinson  Potential Land Acquisition. Look at options for park land purchase in the Chippewa/Mohawk area. Look for connections to Baker Park. Look for connection to Medina Lake Preserve. Subcommittee: Thies and Lee  Park Commissioner Park Assignments for 2020. Commissioners should review their parks, update the asset inventory for their park, and recommend any changes to the Capital Improvement Plan for their parks. o Holy Name Park – Bernhardt o City Hall – Thies o Maple Park – Thies o Hunter Lions Park – Jacob o Rainwater Nature Area – Jacob o Medina Morningside – Lee o Hamel Legion Park – Lee o Lakeshore Park – Hutchinson o Walnut Park – Hutchinson o Tomann Preserve – Morrison o Medina Lake Preserve – Morrison o The Park at Fields of Medina - Sharp 9) Staff Report  2020 Representation at City Council Meetings – Gallup stated that the 2020 roster for Park Commission representation at City Council meetings was included in the packet. She requested that commissioners add their dates to their calendars or switch dates with another commissioner if they have a conflict. Thies encouraged commissioners to attend the City Council meetings on their designated dates. Medina Park Commission Meeting Minutes January 15, 2020 Medina City Hall Page 3 of 3  General Items – Gallup reported that the Hamel Athletic Club plans to attend the February meeting to request field improvements. 10) Adjourn A motion was made by Morrison, seconded by Lee and passed unanimously, to adjourn the meeting.
