HomeMy Public PortalAbout12-8407 National Day of Prayer Sponsored by: Commissioner Tydus Resolution No. 12-8407 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF OPA-LOCKA, FLORIDA TO RECOGNIZE THURSDAY,MAY 3,2012 AS NATIONAL DAY OF PRAYER WITHIN THE CITY OF OPA-LOCKA, AND THIS YEAR'S THEME SHALL BE "ONE NATION UNDER GOD"; PROVIDING FOR INCORPORARION OF RECITALS; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, the National Day of Prayer is an annual day of observance held on the first Thursday of May,designated by the United States Congress,in which millions of American unite in prayer, a day when people are asked"to turn to God in prayer and meditation"; and WHEREAS,the City Commission of the City of Opa-locka has participated previously in the observance of National Day of Prayer; and WHEREAS,the City Commission of the City of Opa-locka desires to recognize Thursday, May 3,2012,as National Day of Prayer,and the theme this year shall be"One Nation Under God". NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF OPA-LOCKA: Section 1. The recitals to the preamble hereby incorporated by reference. Section 2. The City Commission of the City of Opa-locka hereby recognizes Thursday, May 3,2012,as National Day of Prayer within the City of Opa-locka,and the theme this year shall be"One Nation Under God". Section 3. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon adoption. PASSED AND ADOPTED THIS 25th DAY OF April, 2012. In 1952, Congress established an annual day of prayer and, in 1988, that law was amended, designating the National Day of Prayer as the first Thursday in May.
