CITY OF LYNWOOD VETERANS AFFAIRS COUNCIL MEETING MINUTES May z4, zoro I. CALL TO ORDER: The meeting for May z4, zoro was informal due to lack of a quorum. II. INVOCATION: None III. PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE: The Pledge of Allegiance was not recited. IV. AGENDA POSTING: The agenda was duly posted by the City Clerk for the May zoio meeting. VI. APPROVAL OF PREVIOUS MINUTES: The May zoio meeting minutes were not approved due to lack of a quorum. VII. SCHEDULED MATTERS: A. Remembering our Veterans Event = Ms. Rozie Carrillo, Recreation Superintendent II reminds the two Veterans present of the upcoming Ijih annual event to be held on Saturday, 5/z9/io at Arcadia County Park from io a.m. to 3 p.m. This event is titled Remembering our Veterans d~` Their Families, Past, Present and Future; sponsored by Michael D. Antonovich, Los Angeles County Supervisor. B. Veterans Day Program - Planning - Chairperson Charles Wood statecl that this board has had a good run but there seems to be a general lack of interest in the Veterans Affairs Council. Ms. Carrillo stated that press releases on the Veterans Affairs Council have run in the Lynwood Journal and Press Telegram. Chairperson Wood stated that we ~ould do one more Veterans Day program. Everything's already been done; we've had skydivers, a helicopter, the Moving Wall, the Buffalo Soldiers, and a themed play to name a few. VIII. PUBLIC ORALS: None IX. BOARD MEMBER ORALS: - WOOD - Chairperson Wood announced that the Hollydale American Legion will have a Memorial Day event on 5/3i at io a.m. Come enjoy hotdogs, hamburgers, sodas and beer. For Immediate Release, June 23, 2010 Contact: Marsha Catron, 202-263-9161 Sanchez Announces Grants for Veterans Washington, D.C. - Congresswoman Linda Sanchez (D-CA) announced today the Department of Labor is awarding a grant to provide veterans in California with green job training in addition to grants awarded under the Homeless Veterans Reintegration Program. Through these programs, veterans wil( receive skills assessments, individual job counseling, labor market information, classroom or on-the-job training, and job placement services. "I want Veterans organizations to know that there are good pcograms for our men and worrien returning to civilian life to find meaningful employment," said Rep. Linda Sanchez. "I am pleased to see iocal groups receive these grants to assist our local veterans."
