HomeMy Public PortalAboutFY2019 Town AdministrationSELECTBOARD TOWN ADMINISTRATION The Selectboard is the chief executive body of the town is comprised of five (5) elected officials serving staggered 3-year terms. The Selectboard coordinates the town’s general operations by establishing policies for town government. It also monitors the financial performance of the town and participates presents a budget to the Annual Town Meeting for action. The Selectboard assumes an active role in any issue or policy that has broad financial implications and/or risks to the town. Expenditures are approved by the Selectboard through the warrant process. In addition, the Selectboard issues warrants to call town meetings and elections and to sign debt issues for the town. Under Proposition 2½, the Selectboard decides whether to seek voter approval of an override or exclusion to raise additional tax revenues for the budget. Allocation of the tax levy among property classes under the Classification Law is another decision made by the selectmen. The Town Administrator is the chief executive of the town and reports directly to the Selectboard. A few of the Town Administrator’s responsibilities include submitting a budget to the Selectboard, appointing personnel and negotiating collective bargaining agreements. Additional responsibilities are outlined in the town bylaws. The Town Administrator has two (2) Assistant Town Administrator’s. One of the Assistant Town Administrators acts as the Chief Procurement Officer (CPO) for the Town; while the second Assistant Town Administration serves the Personnel/ Human Resources function. This is in addition to their regular administrative duties. All the department heads throughout the town also report directly to the Town Administrator.
