RESOLUTION NO. 12-8435
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF
THE CITY OF OPA-LOCKA, FLORIDA, CALLING
FOR A SPECIAL ELECTION TO BE HELD IN AND
FOR THE CITY OF OPA-LOCKA, FLORIDA ON
AUGUST 14, 2012; PROVIDING AUTHORIZATION
FOR THE CITY CLERK TO PUBLISH THE
APPROPRIATE NOTICE OF THE SPECIAL
ELECTION IN A NEWSPAPER OF GENERAL
CIRCULATION IN THE CITY AT LEAST FIFTEEN
(15) DAYS PRIOR TO THE ELECTION AS SET
FORTH IN SECTION 8.5-3 OF THE CODE OF
ORDINANCES OF THE CITY OF OPA-LOCKA, •
FLORIDA; PROVIDING FOR INCORPORATION OF
RECITALS; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE
WHEREAS, a referendum special election is scheduled to be held on August 14, 2012
in and for the City of Opa-locka ("City"); and
WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 8.5-3 of the City Code, due notice of said election shall
be given to the public.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION
OF THE CITY OF OPA-LOCKA, FLORIDA:
Section 1. A Special Election is hereby called to be held in and for the City of Opa-
locka on the 14th day of August 2012, from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., at which time there will be
submitted to the qualified electors residing in the City of Opa-locka, to be voted upon by said
qualified electors, a referendum as approved by Resolution 12-8414.
Section 2. Notice of the special election shall be given in substantially the following
form:

Public Notice is hereby given that pursuant to the Charter of the City of
Opa-locka, Florida, as amended, and a resolution adopted by the City
Resolution No. 12-8435
Commission of the City of Opa-locka, Florida, a special election has been called
and ordered to be held in and for said City from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. on the 14th
day of August, 2012 for a referendum as set forth in Resolution 12-8414.
Section 3. The special election will be held at the regular polling places to
wit:

Section 4. All qualified electors of the City of Opa-locka whose names appear
upon the registration book in the office of the Supervisor of Elections of Miami-Dade
County, Florida, on July16, 2012, and who are electors of the City of Opa-locka, will be
entitled to vote at said election.
Section 5. Absentee ballots shall be passed and issued in accordance with the
election laws of the State of Florida pertaining thereto.
Section 6. Upon closing of the polls of the special election, the inspectors and clerks
thereof shall file a certified copy of the returns of said special election with the City Clerk and
the Miami-Dade County Elections Department, who shall transmit such returns to the

Canvassing Board, so that such returns may be thereafter canvassed and the results of said
elections may be officially declared by the Miami-Dade County Canvassing Board:
As to the August 14, 2012 Special Election
Section 7. The City Clerk is hereby authorized to publish the appropriate notice of
special election in a newspaper of general circulation in the City at least fifteen (15) days prior
to the election, as set forth in Section 8.5-3(b) of the Code of Ordinances of the City of Opa-
locka.
Section 8. The recitals to the preamble herein are incorporated by reference.
Section 9. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon adoption.
