RESOLUTION NO. 13-8524
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF OPA-LOCKA, TO AUTHORIZING THE CITY
MANAGER TO CREATE A PLAN AND PURSUE FINANCIAL
COMPENSATION OR PROPERTY ACQUISITION OF
HOMES THAT HAVE CITY LIENS, OR ARE ABANDONED
AND ARE CREATING A NUISANCE TO THE COMMUNITY;
PROVIDING FOR INCORPORATION OF RECITALS;
PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE
WHEREAS, there are a number of properties in the City that has been abandoned by
their owner for financial reasons, based on the difficult economy and on the loss of value of
home prices; and
WHEREAS, these abandoned properties constitute a nuisance to the community and
lower property value of the homes in the City; and
WHEREAS,many of these properties have City liens pending or filed against them.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION
OF THE CITY OF OPA-LOCKA, FLORIDA:
Session 1. The recitals to the preamble herein are incorporated by reference.
Session 2. The City Commission of the City of Opa-locka, directs the City Manager,
with the assistance of the City Attorney, to develop a plan to pursue financial compensation from
these properties, or to secure acquisition of these properties, in an attempt to help address this on-
going problem.
Session 3. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon adoption.
