HomeMy Public PortalAbout13-8559 Federal Aviation Adminstrations Sponsored by: Vice Mayor Kelley RESOLUTION NO. 13-8559 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF OPA-LOCKA, FLORIDA OPPOSING THE FEDERAL AVIATION ADMINISTRATION'S DECISION TO CLOSE THE OPA-LOCKA AIRPORT FLIGHT TOWER; PROVIDING FOR INCORPORATION OF RECITALS; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE WHEREAS,the Opa-locka Airport Flight Tower("Airport Tower")provides safe and an orderly regulation of air traffic in and nearby the City of Opa-locka; and WHEREAS, the Federal Aviation Administration (the"FAA") is considering closing the Airport Tower because of the sequester; and WHEREAS,the City Commission of the City of Opa-locka believes that closing the Airport Tower will jeopardize the health, safety, and welfare of the residents of Opa-locka; and WHEREAS,the City Commission of the City of Opa-locka strongly opposes the closing of the Airport Tower. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF OPA-LOCKA, FLORIDA: Section 1. The recitals to the preamble herein are incorporated by reference. Section 2. The City Commission of the City of Opa-locka hereby strongly opposes the closure of Opa-locka Airport Tower. Section 3. The City shall notify residents of this problem by all means available to it, including the use of the Code Red System. Resolution No. 13-8559 Section 4. The City Clerk is directed to forward a copy of this Resolution to all State Legislators representing the City of Opa-locka and to all members of Florida Congressional Delegation. Section 5. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon adoption.
